GRAFTON, N.D. (Valley News Live) -

Update: Court documents say Brent Baldwin’s felony theft charge stems from the theft of a breath alcohol sensor worth $1500. The documents say Baldwin was brought to corrections by Highway Patrol, suspected of DUI. They documents say camera footage was reviewed by correctional staff showing Baldwin in the lobby leaving the law enforcement center with the sensor wrapped in paperwork -- later falling out. The documents say he first denied the theft, then later told police on the phone he took the sensor because he couldn’t find an envelope of money he’d brought in to pay bond -- where he says $700 of the $1200 he’d brought in was missing.

Original story: Brent Baldwin, of St. Thomas, ND, is facing multiple charges stemming from an incident on Thursday, May 12th, including a felony. Baldwin is the Assistant Coach for Grafton High School’s boys’ basketball team.

The 51-year-old faces a felony charge of ‘Theft-Take-$1,000-$10,000′ as well as a misdemeanor of ‘Drove Or In Actual Physical Control Of Motor Vehicle’.

Court documents show that another misdemeanor charge of ‘Hindering Law Enforcement’ was dismissed.

Baldwin’s next court hearing is May 31 via Zoom.

The Grafton school district has no comment.
