Jerry Gentry, age 68, of Russell Springs

Jerry Gentry, of Russell Springs, known by his community as “The Can Man”, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2022, at his home.  He was 68 years of age.

Jerry was born March 16, 1954, son of the late Refus Dowell and Ada Mae Coffey Gentry.  He liked to cut tobacco and mow yards.  He enjoyed doing his own house cleaning and cooking.  The number of miles and hours Jerry walked the roads of Russell County, cleaning up the roadsides of aluminum cans, could only be guessed.

He is survived by his sisters, Judy Campbell, of Columbia, Ella Johnson (and Phillip), of Jamestown, and Joan Shaw, of Edmonton; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Jerry is preceded in death by his half-brother, Eldon “Peanut” Gentry; and his half-sister, Wanda Rhoten.

Funeral services are 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 26, 2022, at Bernard Funeral Home, with Bro. Jerry Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in Clear Springs Cemetery.

Visitation will be held after 11:00 a.m., Thursday, until time for funeral services.

Jerry’s arrangements are entrusted to Bernard Funeral Home.  An online guestbook is available at www.bernardfuneralhome.com
