Missing Chicago teenager found at Tuscaloosa hotel, Michigan man arrested
A Michigan man is behind bars in Alabama and a missing Chicago teenager is returning home after a group of hotel employees contacted police about suspicious behavior during a check-in last week.The West Alabama Human Trafficking Task Force said the Tuscaloosa Police Department received a call from a local hotel at 12:40 p.m. last Thursday requesting a welfare check after a front desk staff member noticed possible indicators of sex trafficking during a check-in. WAHTTF said the staff member and another coworker made mental notes of the check-in before reporting the incident to supervisors. Hotel staff joined together to verify the guest's identity and check on her welfare before they called 911.When Tuscaloosa police arrived at the hotel with WAHTTF members, the guest tried to escape but was apprehended nearby. Investigators identified her as a 17-year-old reported missing from Chicago. Authorities then arrested 33-year-old Geremy Glass for human trafficking and second-degree possession of marijuana. He is in the Tuscaloosa County Jail with no bond for the human trafficking charge and a $6,000 bond for the marijuana charge.The missing teen was transported back home to Chicago.Tuscaloosa police said thank you to the hotel staff for their "diligence and for the lengths they went to" in helping bring the missing teen to safety.“The hotel staff took thoughtful action to check on the welfare of their guest without regard to their own safety,” WAHTTF commander Capt. Phil Simpson said.Details related to the hotel's name and location will not be released. Tuscaloosa police said additional arrests are expected in this investigation.
