Just months after leading the Tualatin boys basketball team to a 26-2 record and its first state championship, Todd Jukkala is stepping down from the Timberwolves.
Jukkala’s departure was first reported by OSAAtoday. He told the Oregonian/OregonLive that he is moving away from the basketball program to have more time to spend with family.
“My kids are at an age where they are very involved in activities and my coaching responsibilities prevented me from attending many events,” Jukkala said. “I have been coaching for 30 years and felt it was the right time to step away and be more present for my family.”
In four seasons at Tualatin, Jukkala amassed a 65-28 record and competed in the playoffs all three times that the team was able to (there were no OSAA-sanctioned playoffs in the COVID-affected 2021 school year).
Jukkala’s connection with the Timberwolves begins far before he started with the boys team. He was the coach of the Tualatin girls basketball team from 1999 to 2012.
While he is leaving his post as basketball coach, Jukkala will continue to teach at Tualatin High School and will be a coach on the freshman football team.
