Community mourns loss after False River boating accident

POINTE COUPEE PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) – In Pointe Coupee Parish, the community is mourning the loss of two people who died in a boating crash on the False River.

Pointe Coupee native Shea Mouton and Dr. Kenneth St. Romain died Friday, according to authorities.

On Sunday morning, the Pointe Coupee Sheriff’s Office found Dr. Kenneth St. Romain’s body in the False River. He was enjoying a fishing tournament with his son when his boat crashed into another boat.

“He loved fishing and he liked to duck hunt but fishing I think was his passion, at least that’s what I interpreted through all the years. He was very close to his son, they shared that joy of the hunting and the fishing,” said an employee at St. Romain Family Dentistry.

Nancy Hafford worked for Dr. St. Romain for 17 years. She said he was a nice and genuine person.

“He just loved life. You know, he went, he did, he enjoyed it. There is nothing bad I can say,” said Hafford.

St. Romain was known for always being reliable in the community and never forgetting a face.

Hafford continued, “Just being a good dependable dentist was a significant contribution to the community. Seeing patients that grew up, had children, and have come back, you know. He remembered so many people. It’s going to be a devastating happening here with him gone.”
