CLEVELAND, Ohio – A suspect opened fire Monday afternoon on the city’s East Side, striking at least two victims in a burst of gun shots, authorities say.

Residents told cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer that family and friends had recently gathered for a memorial service near East 152nd and St. Clair Avenue. The shooting took place about 3:30 p.m. At least two people were injured and taken to University Hospitals.

One woman was struck in the leg, while another was shot in the lower back, police said.

Residents said they believed several people were hurt. Officers would not comment, and it is unclear whether a person was arrested or why the shooting took place.

This is a developing story, and it will be updated.
