The latest hospital data, which the state is now updating only on Wednesdays, shows 163 beds in use by patients with confirmed cases of COVID-19, 19 more than a week ago. Colorado’s seven-day average positivity rate was 10.33%. The state’s goal is to remain below 5%.
As of Friday, 4,484,135 people have received at least one dose of the vaccine in Colorado and 4,049,118 have been fully vaccinated.
11:51 a.m. | Boulder County moves to high community level for COVID-19
Boulder County has moved to high COVID-19 levels in the community, according to CDC metrics. This indicates that COVID-19 cases are high and the strain on hospitals and healthcare facilities is rising.
The county reported that according to the CDC:
- The case rate in Boulder County is 318.5 per 100,000 people
- New COVID-19 hospital admissions are at 10.6 per 100,000 people
- Staffed inpatient beds in use by COVID-positive individuals are at 1.9%
Jackson County is also in high community levels.

2 p.m. | CDPHE to send text reminders to Coloradans 50+ about getting a fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine
Starting tomorrow, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environtment (CDPHE) will send text message and email reminders to more than 650,000 Coloradans aged 50 and older whose records in the Colorado Immunization Information System indicate they are due for a fourth dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
This is in response to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently updated guidance and strengthened its recommendation for fourth doses, calling on all adults 50 years and older to consider getting a fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
All Coloradans who want to ensure they are keeping up with their recommended doses can use the CDPHE’s COVID-19 vaccine follow-up calculator to help them determine their number of recommended doses. COVID-19 vaccines and follow-up doses are available at more than 2,000 COVID-19 vaccine providers in Colorado. All follow-up doses are free.

3:53 p.m. | Most of metro Denver moves to medium COVID risk level on CDC dashboard
Much of the Front Range moved from “low” to “medium” risk when the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its COVID-19 community levels dashboard Friday.
Denver, Arapahoe, Douglas, Jefferson, Broomfield and Larimer counties switched from low to medium, meaning they have at least 200 new COVID-19 cases for every 100,000 residents. Boulder and Mineral counties were already at the medium level, and the rest of the state was considered low risk.
An order from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment requires masks in congregate settings, like jails, addiction treatment centers and homeless shelters, in counties at the medium or high level.
Masks also will be required in medical facilities in more than half of the state. The current public health order mandates them in counties with “high” or “substantial” transmission on a separate CDC ranking that emphasizes case counts. As of Friday, 43 of Colorado’s 64 counties fell into one of those categories.
