Lady Eagles gear up for postseason golf

With the golf regionals scheduled for next week, the Stratton Lady Eagles are getting their final tuneups in. Those began with last week’s Liberty Common Invite, and continued with Monday’s tournament in Fort Morgan.
Stratton was easily the smallest school in the tournament last Friday, and while they finished in eighth place as a team, the Lady Eagles weren’t that far out of contention. Erie won the team event with a remarkable tally of 234. Stratton checked in with a team score of 359, only 14 shots out of seventh.
Erie’s freshman, Hadley Ashton, was the lone golfer to break par in the event, carding a 68 to finish first.
Clare Miltenberger led Stratton with a 105, good for 24th place. Piper Witzel claimed 42nd place with a round of 125, and MaKayla Shean was 45th with a 129. Claire Cure rounded out the standings for the Lady Eagles with a final score of 130, taking 47th place.
In their final contest before next Monday’s regional meet at Hollydot near Colorado City, the Lady Eagles hit Quail Dunes in Fort Morgan on Monday morning. While there were a number of familiar faces (Limon, Washington County, Holyoke, Brush), Stratton was also up against 11 Class 4A programs. Stratton finished 17th, posting a final team tally of 384, only 10 back of the team in front of them.
Windsor, a 4A team, won the tournament with a score of 245.
On the day, a total of three players carded a round of par (74) or better, with the gold medalist posting a 70. Miltenberger paced the Lady Eagles with a 116, finishing in a five-way tie for 46th. Jessica Brandon, Witzel, and Shean all finished in a four-way tie for 62nd, with each carding a round of 134.
