Columbia man charged with assault after alleged stabbing

A Columbia man is facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting another man with a knife.

A Boone County prosecutor has charged Bashir Nur with first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.

Columbia police responded just before 11 a.m. on Saturday to the 1000 block of Westwinds Drive on a disturbance call. When police arrived, they found a man bleeding profusely from a wound to the hand and Nur with no injuries, according to the probable cause statement.

The victim told police that Nur had shown up at the residence and attacked the victim with a knife, according to the probable cause statement. Police report that the victim had cuts to his middle finger and the victim could not move his finger.

After reading Nur his Miranda rights, Nur told investigators that he confronted the victim about allegedly sexually assaulting Nur’s girlfriend in February when the fight occurred, according to the probable cause statement.

Police report there was video footage of the incident. Police report the video showed Nur walking up to the porch and confronting the victim before taking a knife out with a five-inch blade and attempting to stab the victim, according to the probable cause statement. The victim then grabbed the knife by the blade to stop Nur from stabbing him.

According to online court records, Nur does not have a defense attorney listed.

Nur is being held at the Boone County Jail without bond.

Nur has a docket hearing scheduled for June 1 and a preliminary hearing scheduled for June 16, according to online court records.
