Everyone wants to know that their new car isn’t going to break down and leave them stranded. While you might shop for vehicles with your sights on the latest technology or performance, you can shop for reliability. If you really want to stack the deck in your favor, you might consider buying a car from a brand with a reputation for dependability, like Toyota. Here are the five most reliable car brands for 2022.

  1. Toyota
  2. Honda
  3. GMC
  4. Chevrolet
  5. Ford

What is the most reliable car brand?

Toyota is the most reliable car brand on the market. That is not a new development, either. Toyota has long had a reputation for dependability while demanding very little of owners. According to the recent iSeeCars study, 2.3 percent of Toyota cars still on the road have over 200,000 miles on the odometer. That is seriously impressive, given the average manufacturer figure of 1.2 percent. Also, while that 2.3 percent might not seem like much, that is a percent of a global manufacturing titan, so the figure represents a vast number.

Is Honda better than Toyota?

While Honda and Toyota both offer their own merits, Toyota has the better reliability figures. Specifically, 1.9 percent of Honda cars that are still on the road have more than 200,000 miles on the odometer. While that number is well above the average, it doesn’t quite keep up with Toyota’s longevity figures.

Do GMC cars last long?

GMC, or General Motors Company, is the top-scoring American automaker in terms of longevity for 2022. While it isn’t quite up to Toyota or Honda standards, the figures earn it a spot on the list of most reliable car brands. According to the iSeeCars study, 1.8 percent of GMC vehicles still on the road have over 200,000 miles, an impressive feat. Furthermore, GMC comes in at .1 percent behind Honda, which has a reputation for reliability.

Does Chevrolet make reliable cars?

While Chevrolet doesn’t have the best reputation for reliability, the American automaker did secure four awards from J.D. Power in 2021. Additionally, 1.6 percent of Chevrolet vehicles are still on the road after 200,000 miles. That reliability figure gets Chevrolet a spot on the list of most reliable car brands. Again, while that might not seem like much, it is a portion of a mass quantity of cars, trucks, and SUVs. So if you’re in the market for a domestic vehicle, you might think twice before dismissing Chevrolet.

Are Fords really that unreliable?

Ford gets a bad reputation for reliability and quality, but they are still above average in vehicle longevity. According to the recent iSeeCars study, 1.5 percent of Ford vehicles still on the road have over 200,000 miles on the odometer. That is more than the industry average of 1.2 percent. As a result, iSeeCars still considers Ford one of the most reliable car brands for 2022.

Which car brand should you buy?

All of these brands make reliable cars, trucks, and SUVs. However, some makes and models are more reliable than others. According to J.D. Power, consumers can’t go wrong with a Toyota Avalon.
