Original Daredevil Showrunner Call’s Disney+ Reboot ‘Bittersweet’

A lot of Marvel fans, especially fans of Daredevil, got some major news last week when it was reported that a new Daredevil series is currently in development for Disney+ and not only that, several reports said that the series could be a continuation of the original Netflix Daredevil series that fans have long awaited for.

But while the fans are currently hyped for the possibility of seeing Charlie Cox playing Matt Murdock/Daredevil again, there are some people that have somewhat mixed feelings about the situation, including one of the original showrunners for the Netflix Daredevil series, Steven DeKnight.

Steven DeKnight, who served as the producer on the Netflix Daredevil series for Season 1, responded to several fan questions and comments on Twitter about the news that was released last week, with one fan asking if he was happy about not being a part of the Disney+ Daredevil series as it was reported that Covert Affairs creators Chris Ord and Matt Corman are developing the series. For DeKnight, the situation is bittersweet, though he is also excited like any fan would be.

"Bittersweet," DeKnight responded. "But all I want is [a] great Daredevil show I can watch with the rest of the fans!"

DeKnight is not the only showrunner from the Netflix Daredevil series to react to the Disney+ news. Erik Oleson, who also served as the showrunner for the third season of the Daredevil series and was a showrunner when Netflix canceled it, a cancelation that started a massive #SaveDaredevil campaign, also took to social media to share his feelings about the news. He posted on Twitter saying he was thrilled.

"Thrilled to learn that Daredevil lives on!" Oleson posted. "Best cast and best fan base EVER!"

As for the other cast of the new Daredevil series, there’s not much information about things just yet, although the head of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, did say back in December that when the Daredevil series returned to the MCU, it would be Charlie Cox portraying Daredevil.

"If you were to see Daredevil in upcoming things, Charlie Cox, yes, would be the actor playing Daredevil," Feige said in an interview with CinemaBlend. "Where we see that, how we see that, when we see that, remains to be seen."

Two Daredevil showrunners, Vincent D’Onofrio and Charlie Cox recently made an appearance in the Hawkeye series and Spider-Man: No Way Home with them reprising their roles as Kingpin/Wilson Fisk and as Matt Murdock.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is available to buy digitally since April 14. All episodes of Hawkeye series are available to stream on Disney+.
