Driver ejected from vehicle and killed in I-94 crash; passenger taken to hospital

YPSILANTI TWP. (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police are investigating a one-vehicle fatal crash along I-94 in Washtenaw County on Monday.

One person was killed and another was injured in the incident, at around 3 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the freeway, west of Huron Street, in Ypsilanti Township.

According to MSP, a driver lost control of his vehicle, and went off the freeway into a ditch. The vehicle then came out of the ditch and overturned.

The driver was thrown from the car and died at the scene, while a passenger was hospitalized with injuries.

No information about the person who was killed was immediately released.

At this time, it's unclear what caused the driver to lose control. Police said the right lane would remain closed for a couple of hours while troopers investigate at the scene.
