Grand Island Police are investigating the drug overdose death of a teen over the weekend.
According to GIPD Capt. Jim Duering, officers responded just after 2 p.m. Sunday to a home in southeast Grand Island.
Duering said the incident is still under investigation.
“This is a tragic incident, the concern over which is amplified by the fact that this does not appear to be the same drug what caused our previous overdoses,” Duering said.
In March, GIPD responded to three opioid deaths over a weekend. These incidents included the death investigation of a 40-year-old homeless male, the overdose of a 20-year-old male who was transported to the emergency room and the overdose of a 17-year-old female who was found unresponsive.
GIPD said at the time the pills related to the overdose incidents appeared to be black market pills being sold as Perocet.
19-year-old Mohamed Ahmed of Grand Island is facing federal drug charges related to the March incidents.
