Cumberland County giving out free fans to eligible residents

Residents eligible for the program fall below 200% of the current poverty level and have a family member in the home under the age of 2, over the age of 60 or have a heat sensitive medical condition.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Starting Monday, free box fans will be given out to those eligible in Cumberland County.

Residents eligible for the program fall below 200% of the current poverty level and have a family member in the home under the age of 2, over the age of 60 or have a heat sensitive medical condition.

To receive a fan, residents are asked to come to the Cumberland County Department of Social Services, located at 1225 Ramsey Street in Fayetteville, to speak with a social worker and complete an assessment.

The department said eligible resident who completed their assessment in person will receive a fan the same day.

Residents that can't complete an assessment in person should call the department at 910-677-2388 or 910-677-2389 to speak with a social worker to have their assessment completed and they will be given a date, time and location to pick up a fan.
