Even Joe Kelly couldn't figure out why Aaron Hicks was so far off second base before costly pickoff

Aaron Hicks has had a rough season for the Yankees, stuck in a brutal offensive slump and has received criticism for how hard he chases down some balls in the outfield.

Having finally put together a two-hit day in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader against the White Sox, Hicks found himself on second base with runners on first and second and one out, with the Yanks down by a run in the seventh. With a 1-1 count to Jose Trevino, Chicago reliever pulled off a not-so-spectacular pickoff move, but Hicks had ventured so far off second base that he was thrown out easily, spoiling a chance for the Yanks to tie the game or take the lead.

Even Kelly himself seemed surprised that Hicks had come that far off the bag, raising his arms in confusion while smiling at Hicks, almost as if he was asking Hicks what he was thinking.

Thousands of fans in the stadium were wondering the same.
