The Selena Quintanilla statue in downtown Corpus Christi has been cleaned up after it was defaced with graffiti that prompted an online outcry from thousands of the late Tejano singer's fans.

Robert Dodd, director of parks and recreation, said they were notified of the graffiti around 3 p.m. Friday. They found the statue was defaced with black marker or paint.

Shortly after the graffiti was discovered fans took to social media, sharing photos and videos of the statue demanding the cleanup of the beloved award-winning singer's statue.

"We got it taken care of as soon we found out and as fast as we could get out there," Dodd told the Caller-Times.
