DeSantis beats Trump in new GOP poll for 2024 nominee

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis beat out former President Donald Trump in a new Republican poll that saw the Wisconsin conventioneers pick whom they want to run to receive the GOP presidential nomination in 2024.

DeSantis received a plurality win with 38% of the vote, while the former president took home 32%, according to the poll conducted by WisPolitics.com.

Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley came in a distant third place, receiving a little over 7%.

In a pool consisting of prominent GOP figures, including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), and former Vice President Mike Pence, no one else received greater than 5%.

The poll was conducted at a Wisconsin GOP convention with at least 1,500 people in attendance.

Attendees were also asked if Trump should run again.

“Forty-three percent (141 votes) of those participating in the straw poll said they want Trump to run again, while just less than 32 percent (103) were opposed and 22 percent (72) indicated they were unsure,” the poll analysis said.
