Wil Wheaton returned as Wesley Crusher in the season finale of Star Trek: Picard.

After years and years of wondering what had happened to Wesley Crusher after he’d gone off with the Traveler in the seventh season of Star Trek: The Next Generation, fans finally got their answer when Wil Wheaton reprised his role on the May 5th finale of Star Trek: Picard. Wesley was still a Traveler, and he encouraged Kore to choose a better life for herself by becoming one, too.

In a recent interview with Cinema Blend, Wheaton expressed how Wesley’s journey and his current place in life are so much alike. As a Traveler, Wesley traverses time and space. He can interact with anyone in the universe if he so chooses. Wheaton, as host of The Ready Room, has the same ability to interact with anyone in the Star Trek universe.

Wil Wheaton explains how both his and Wesley’s journeys brought them back to Star Trek.

Wheaton says he wouldn’t have been ready to be a Time Lord as a younger Wesley as he wouldn’t have known what to do with the ability nor would have appreciated the opportunity.

"“If Wesley Crusher, through his abilities as a Time Lord, were given the opportunity, he could kind of go anywhere and go into any of those places. I never would have been ready for that when I was younger, and I wouldn’t have known what to do with it. I wouldn’t have known how to appreciate the opportunity and the privilege of being a small part of every show instead of a slightly larger part of a single show.I am in a place now where I can appreciate this, and I can love it, and I can extract maximum value from it and get the most amazing experience out of the entire thing.”"

Wheaton has interviewed and interacted with many of the stars of Star Trek, and had this happened much earlier in his career, he might not have appreciated it as much as he does now. He says he’s now in a place where he can love where he is. That sounds like something Wesley Crusher would say.

Wil Wheaton reconfirms he won’t be appearing in Star Trek: Picard season 3. dark. Next
