Paolo Maldini watches his son lift Scudetto as Daniel becomes THIRD generation to win league at AC Milan

PAOLO MALDINI watched with pride as son Daniel lifted his first-ever Serie A title yesterday.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder became the THIRD generation of Maldinis to win a Scudetto following dad Paolo and grandfather Cesare.

But this one was extra special as his father cheered him on to the field before the pair embraced in front of a roaring crowd.

Milan’s 3-0 win at Sassuolo on Sunday saw them win their first title in 11 years.

The likes of Olivier Giroud, Fikayo Tomori and Theo Hernandez played key roles this season as AC outmuscled rivals and defending champions Inter.

And the players received their trophy yesterday in jubilant scenes of celebration.

Each star came out on to the field one-by-one to soak up the crowd’s adoration.

But there was an extra-loud cheer for Daniel as he walked out.

The former academy star made eight league appearances this season, scoring once.

And proud dad Paolo, now Milan’s technical director, was on hand to personally congratulate him on the pitch.

But it remains to be seen if Daniel can go on to match his father’s legacy.

Paolo is regarded as one of the greatest defenders in history, having played 902 times for Milan during a stunning 25-year career.

He won seven titles and five European Cups, while also being capped 126 times for Italy.

But Paolo too was following in the footsteps of greatness.

Father Cesare, who passed away in 2016 aged 84, played 412 times for Milan.

He won four titles and one European Cup before becoming Milan’s manager, leading them to glory in the 1973 Italian Cup and European Cup Winners’ Cup.

But with Daniel now joining the Maldini legacy of Serie A winners, all eyes will be on the midfielder to see if he can now land more silverware.
