Bayern Munich resolve future of Manuel Neuer

After an average season, Bayern Munich has started working on strengthening the squad for the next season. The Bavarian club is in good talks with Ajax midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, while there is significant interest in Stuttgart’s Sasa Kalajdzic. The German Champions have also sealed the signing of Noussair Mazraoui on a free transfer from Ajax.

Along with adding new faces to the squad, Die Roten is also focussing on extending the contracts of senior players. After securing the future of Thomas Muller, Rekordmeister announced a contract renewal of Manuel Neuer on Monday.

As per the new deal, Neuer will be staying in Bavaria at least until 2024. It is a one-year extension as the German shot-stopper’s previous deal expires in 2023. The negotiations with Neuer are likely to be smooth as he had expressed desire to end his career in Bavaria.

Manuel Neuer has shown no signs of decline. After recovering from a serious foot injury in 2018, Neuer has managed to get back to his best. Despite turning 36 earlier this year, Neuer still has many years left at the top level.

Apart from his qualities on the pitch, Neuer also has a big role to play in the dressing room. He has been a good captain for the first team, leading from the front with his performances. Neuer remains hungry to win more titles with the club. In an ideal scenario, he will be hoping to win one more Champions League title with Die Roten by the time his new deal comes to an end.

The contract extension of Neuer is set to impact the future of Alexander Nubel in Bavaria. The young German goalkeeper will be returning to Die Roten next summer after a two-year loan spell in Monaco. Nubel had hinted at a permanent transfer in 2023 if Neuer signs a new deal.

Die Roten still considers Nubel as the long-term replacement of Manuel Neuer. It remains to be seen whether the club officials have convinced Neuer to share an adequate amount of playing time with Nubel from the 2023/24 campaign.
