Helen Jean Lindsay of Glidden

Helen Jean Lindsay, age 72, of Glidden, IA, earned her angel wings on Friday, May 20, 2022 at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids, IA, after an eleven-year long battle with cancer.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden with Pastor Rick Hamilton officiating. Honorary pall bearers will be her grandchildren: Trevor Goodwin, Marissa Hinners, and Ashlynn Hinners. Burial will be at a later date at the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery in Glidden.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com.

 Jean was born October 8, 1949 in Iowa City, IA, and she was the daughter of Fred and Golda (Furne) Christie. She grew up in Denison, IA, and attended the Denison Community Schools graduating with the Class of 1967. She was employed at Acoma Foods in Carroll until it closed and that is where she met her future husband Robert.

On April 17, 1969, she was united in marriage to Robert Lindsay in Omaha, NE. They were blessed with two daughters, Chris and Melinda. They moved to Glidden in 1970 and she worked various jobs for several years. She most recently worked at American Home Shield in Carroll as a dispatcher for several years until she was forced to retire due to her failing health. Jean was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2011 and also suffered a massive stroke in 2019.  Jean kept her spunk and sense of humor despite her failing health and never complained even on the worst days.

Jean was a member of the United Methodist Church in Glidden. She loved knitting, crocheting, and everything to do with arts and crafts. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her coffee and tea time with her friends. She also had a large collection of angels that she collected over the years.

Jean is survived by her husband, Robert Lindsay of Glidden, IA; her daughters, Chris Goodwin and husband Jack Scanlan of Glidden, IA, and Melinda and husband Brian Hinners of Scranton, IA; grandchildren: Trevor Goodwin of Coon Rapids, IA, Marissa Hinners and Ashlynn Hinners both of Scranton, IA; great grandson, Paxton Hinners of Scranton, IA; step-granddaughters, Emily and husband Troy Langenfeld and their children, Jack and Tripp all of Earling, IA; and Brittany Scanlan and her children, Cayden, Bentley, and Lily all of Omaha, NE; sister, Jodi and husband Dean Johnston of Denison, IA; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jim Christie; sister, Judy and husband Carl Simpson; and her in-laws, Russell and Belle Lindsay.
