Michigan football’s season opener is still a bit over four months away, but we are getting a taste of expectations. Not long after a handful of spreads were announced, Circa Sports released Week 0 and 1 lines. This included Michigan’s Sept. 3 opener against Colorado State.

The Wolverines open as a 27-point favorite over the visiting Rams with the over/under set at 57.5 points. Recently, Vegas oddsmakers also revealed Michigan’s over/under win total for the season, which came in at 9.5.

Michigan and Colorado State have met only once in each program’s history. The Wolverines emerged victorious in a 24-14 win over the Rams in the 1994 Holiday Bowl in San Diego.

CSU is coming off a 3-9 regular season in 2021, which caused them to fire head coach Steve Addazio after two years. Former Nevada head coach Jay Norvell takes over and will coach his program debut at the Big House. Colorado State, who plays in the Mountain West Conference, will play Middle Tennessee, at Washington State and vs. Sacramento State in its non-conference schedule.

U-M enters the 2022 campaign coming off a 12-2 year, an elusive victory over Ohio State, Big Ten Championship and its first trip to the College Football Playoff. OSU leads the Big Ten in over/under wins with the number set at 10.5. Michigan and Ohio State will play on Nov. 26 in Columbus with potential East division ramifications on the line.

Kickoff time for Michigan’s opener against Colorado State has not been set yet. The rest of its non-conference slate includes dates with Hawaii and UConn. Big Ten play opens on Sept. 24 with a visit from Maryland, while the first road trip will be on Oct. 1 at Iowa.

Michigan quote of the day

“Like I said, when I first met him, I didn’t get a weird vibe, but I did get a vibe that I was going to have to really try to build a relationship with him. He’s so smart and knows so much about football. Over the last year, our bond has grown with phone calls. We’ve talked about football and the team. I think it’s growing tremendously. Everything has been great between me and him.”
