Law enforcement authorities were searching Monday for the suspect who fatally shot a south King County homeowner during an attempted burglary, authorities said.
Police received a call shortly after 3 a.m. from a homeowner in the area between 80th Ave. South between S. 124th Street and S. 125th Street, saying an intruder had broken into their house. The homeowner interrupted the burglar, according to reports.
King County Sheriff's Capt. Tim Meyer said investigators believe the man who was slain lived in the home but they were not sure if he was the homeowner. The victim's identity was pending and expected to be released from the King County coroner, Meyer said.
In video from Christina Nguyen’s home surveillance camera that was taken around the time of the fatal shooting, the sound of a gunshot can be heard along with a person yelling and running back and forth on 80th Avenue S.
“I looked through my cameras and that’s when I found the young lady running down the street," she said. "And you can see her running and literally, you can hear somebody shoot at her."
Another neighbor, who wanted to stay anonymous, said a strange car was parked outside their home.
“I walked outside and she had parked right in front of my driveway. I asked her to move and she seemed kind of flustered and said she was just waiting for a friend and that she’ll leave. I kind of hung outside for a little bit. I think her car wasn’t starting. She tried to start the car and leave and she didn’t, so I just kind of went back inside and that’s when I heard all the gunshots ring off. I would say about between six and eight gunshots I heard.”
“We believe that the life that was lost today was a resident of the home,” Meyer said, “At 3 a.m. we know that something went horribly wrong around that home and that’s what we need to find out. We owe it to a family and we owe it to the community to try and bring closure in this case.”
Nguyen and other neighbors said the victim was a great person.
“He was really sweet. I spoke to him one time," she said. "He would always give away things to the neighborhood."
Skyway fire medics were unable to save the man's life after he was shot
The home borders Dimmitt Middle School, and the body remained in the street as students arrived for school on Monday.
