Homers, gems and steals: Vote for IHSAA softball players of the week (May 16-21)

IndyStar will be recognizing the top softball players in Indiana with our players of the week poll. 

Congratulations to Eastern Greene's Bailee Tieman on being voted Player of the Week for May 9-14! She went 7-for-7 with three doubles, three RBIs and five runs scored against Shakamak. She also stole a base and was a perfect 8-for-8 in the field. Tieman (1,906 votes) edged out Yorktown's Macy Dowd (1,730).

Here is a look at last week's top performers. 

Mackenzie Bieker, Edinburgh

Bieker fanned 18 and did not allow an earned run against both Waldron and Monrovia. In addition to her 36 strikeouts, the sophomore also logged six hits and four RBIs. 

Samantha Breaux, Westfield

Breaux went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs in a 12-5 win over McCutcheon. She finished the week batting .556 with seven RBIs and two home runs. 

Allie Blum, New Palestine

Blum shipped five home runs, two of which were grand slams, as part of a 9-for-15 week at the plate. She drove in 17 runs and scored 12 times herself. 

Michelle Eicher, Indiana Deaf

The sophomore drove in four runs on three hits and scored thrice in a 29-13 win over University on Monday, then posted two RBIs and two runs scored the next night against Oldenburg Academy. 

Payton Fox, Hamilton Southeastern

The junior had quite the week in leading HSE to four more wins, going 9-for-16 at the plate with three home runs, two doubles, a triple, six RBIs and eight runs scored. She capped her week with a 2-for-3 showing against Yorktown that included two homers, two RBIs and two run scored.

Alanah Jones, Yorktown

The Purdue Fort Wayne commit pitched 11 innings last week, allowing two hits and only one earned run (0.63 ERA) with 20 strikeouts. Opponents batted .057 against Jones, whose efforts helped the Tigers beat Pendleton Heights and secure a share of the HHC title. 

Kaylee Larkin, Brownsburg

Larkin went 3-for-3 with two homers, six RBIs and two runs scored in a 13-2 win over Southport. She also homered and drove in the team's only runs in a 3-2 loss to Fishers. 

Malone Moore, Beech Grove

Moore threw a no-hitter with three walks and eight strikeouts against Indian Creek. She also went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run and three RBIs. 

Maddy Myers, Whiteland

Myers had one of her best games of the season in a 12-7 win over Triton Central, going 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, a home run, six RBIs and four runs scored. 

Grace Morrison, Perry Meridian

The junior went off against Covenant Christian, clocking four hits — two of which were doubles — and driving in six of the team's 19 runs. 

Caroline Stapleton, Eastern Hancock

Stapleton went 3-for-3 with a triple against Pendleton Heights. She also clocked a couple hits (one home run) vs. Daleville, and finished 3-for-3 with an RBI and four runs scored against Wes-Del.

Alayna Tesnar, Heritage Christian

The sophomore threw a perfect game against Traders Point Christian on Tuesday, striking out 15 of the 21 batters she faced on only 79 pitches. She also logged two hits and a run scored in three at bats. Tesnar struck out 10 in a 1-0 loss to Speedway, and 11 in a win over Brebeuf Jesuit. 

Kierra Warrix, Lawrence North

It was a big week for Warrix at the plate. The senior infielder batted .727 with five RBIs and five runs scored. Her week was highlighted by a 4-for-4, two-double, three-RBI showing vs. Hamilton Heights in the regular season finale.
