Liverpool Fan Left Mohamed Salah Devastated Telling Him The Manchester City Score

Liverpool Fan Left Mohamed Salah Devastated Telling Him The Manchester City Score

Salah put Liverpool ahead for the first time against Wolves, but Manchester City had already taken the lead against Aston Villa.

Mohamed Salah thought he'd won Liverpool the Premier League title, before being left devastated to learn Manchester City were already ahead.

Sunday's dramatic end to the title race had shades of 2012 about it, when Sergio Aguero scored the most famous, iconic and important goal in the Premier League's history.

City once again needed to come from behind to win 3-2 and hold onto the title, but things were so nearly very different when they were 2-0 down to Aston Villa.

At that point a goal for Liverpool would have been enough to springboard Jurgen Klopp's side to the top of the table, as they were being held by Wolves at Anfield.

Then Salah finally broke the deadlock in the 84th minute, running over to celebrate with the home fans, and he may well have believed that he'd just won his side the league.

That's because the forward went from ecstatic to devastated in a matter of seconds, as one fan told him of City's five minute comeback and the scoreline at the Etihad.

The devastation was pretty brief, with Salah then lifting his arms to the crowd again, but you can see the life partially sucked out of him at hearing the news.

Inside Anfield the atmosphere built as first Matty Cash and then Philippe Coutinho scored for Villa, the second of which would have been of particular enjoyment for a crowd who spent many games cheering on the Brazilian.

In five second half minutes though, things completely turned around, with Ilkay Gundogan coming on as a substitute to change the game.

The German midfielder scored twice, with Rodri's strike sandwiched by Gundogan's goals, including the 81st minute winner.

It meant that in the end Salah's goal, and the one by Andrew Robertson in the 89th minute, were ultimately worthless in the title race.

Salah's goal wasn't for nothing for him personally at least, as he needed the strike for his own race to win the Premier League's Golden Boot.

Son Heung-min scored twice for Tottenham Hotspur, in their decimation of Norwich City, meaning that Salah needed one just to finish level with the South Korean.

The former Roma forward also ended up with the Playmaker of the Season award, after also providing the most assists in England's top tier, but he wasn't too pleased at all, having missed out on what he really wanted.

No doubt, the mood around Anfield will be much improved next week if they can beat Real Madrid in the Champions League final and end up with a cup treble.
