WARREN (WWJ) -- A Macomb County man was murdered while allegedly responding to a domestic violence incident reported to him by his children.

According to Warren Police Commissioner William Dwyer, the 54-year-old man was shot and killed at around 6:30 a.m. on Saturday after going to the Regency Club Apartments, just west of Hayes Road.

When Warren police officers responded to the apartment on a report of shots fired, they located the man who was shot once in the abdomen.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter, officials said.

The suspected shooter, a 29-year-old man, was immediately apprehended, said police.

“This is a very tragic and regrettable incident," said Dwyer. "I commend the responding officers for taking this individual into custody quickly and without further violence, ensuring that he no longer poses a threat to the public.”

The suspect remains in custody while awaiting charges.
