AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin Police have identified a man killed in a wrong-way crash on MoPac in central Austin Monday morning.

The crash happened in the 2600 block of MoPac Expressway northbound around 5:41 a.m., Austin Police said. That’s near Northwood Road.

Police say Richard Barrera, 37, was driving the wrong way in the northbound toll lane when he collided with another vehicle traveling north. Barrera died at the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle was taken to the hospital with minor, non-life-threatening injuries, according to Austin-Travis County EMS.

This is Austin’s 44th fatal crash of the year, resulting in 45 fatalities.
