MARGARETVILLE – The $1.8 million project to address flood damage to the Bull Run Channel and Stream Bank in Margaretville has been completed.

During Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee, the Bull Run Channel flooded, rendering it impassible. Sediment dredged up by the storm blocked the stream and as a result, homes and businesses throughout Margaretville were damaged by the ensuing floods.

The project was funded by the state Office of Storm Recovery with funds supplied by the federal government’s Community Development Block Grant program.

Remediation included replacing portions of the channel’s retaining wall and stabilizing the stream bank, installation of stone fill and removal of debris from the channel.

Margaretville Village Mayor John Hubbell said the project “will not only enhance the protection of property but also provide a sense of security to those who live with the fear of losing their property due to flooding.”

Delaware County Board of Supervisors’ Chairwoman Tina Mole’ said the Bull Run Channel project “exemplifies the type of project that can provide resiliency while enhancing the community.” She also said it “provides for both the safety and beauty of the region.”
