[UPDATE 11:18 a.m.] Shots Fired Near the Humboldt / Trinity County Line

Shots Fired FeatureOn the evening of Saturday, May 22nd, just after 6:30 p.m. emergency personnel were alerted to a traffic collision with shots fired on County Line Creek Road off of Highway 36 near the Humboldt / Trinity County line.

Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies responded to the call along with CHP and the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office, though it was determined that the incident occurred on the Humboldt County side of the county line.

Initial scanner traffic reports stated that two suspects had broken a gate to gain entry to a property that had previously been vandalized. The suspects were spotted by an individual on the property doing a property check due to the history of vandalism.

Upon spotting the suspects in a side-by-side utility vehicle, the individual attempted to chase the suspects in another vehicle. The suspects shot at the individual, striking the individual’s vehicle, though the individual remained unharmed according to Sergeant Mowrey of the HCSO.

At some point a collision occurred and the side-by-side was abandoned. The suspects fled on foot. A CHP search helicopter was requested but it is unclear if they assisted in the search.

Law enforcement located the side-by-side without any plates.

HCSO Sergeant Sherrod told us that the suspects have not been apprehended at this time and the investigation is ongoing.

Please remember that this investigation is unfolding. Information is being released as we gather it. However, some of the information coming from witnesses and initial official reports could be wrong. We will do our best to get the facts but, in the case that something is inaccurate, we will update with correct information as soon as we can.

UPDATE 11:18 a.m.: The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department sent us this more complete account of what occurred.

On May 21, 2022, at about 6:30 p.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a property on the 4300 block of County Line Creek Road, near Dinsmore, for the report of a traffic collision and shots fired. The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol were also dispatched to assist.

Deputies arrived in the area and contacted an involved individual, a 23-year-old male resident of the property. The man told deputies that he had pursued a side-by-side utility vehicle occupied by two unknown individuals he believed had been involved in a vandalism on his property. During his pursuit of the side-by-side, the man’s vehicle reportedly collided with the utility vehicle. At some point during this incident, gunfire was reportedly exchanged. The man was not injured during this incident. The two individuals involved with the side-by-side fled prior to deputies’ arrival and it is unknown if they sustained injuries as a result of this incident.

This incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information related to this incident or the identities of the two unknown individuals should contact the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office at (707) 445-7251 or the Sheriff’s Office Crime Tip line at (707) 268-2539.

Just like the Arcata forest, all is safe and you have nothing to worry about. This is an isolated incident and the suspects are not a threat to society at this time.

And some peace hating dope thieves. But stealing is okay, as long as they’re not growing dope, right?

It will be interesting to see in 4 to 5 years when this type of stuff is still going on all over our woods and people are no longer growing cannabis out there anymore and people like yourself will still be blaming it on “dope growers” It’s called criminals. The landowner had their property vandalized and broken into, then shot at and you make a snide comment.
Maybe you don’t know the history of this county but bad things have been happening to innocent people for a very long time here.

Trinity has rampant theft and violent crimes. It’s NOT related to cannabis, but is instead tied to poverty. The collapse of the cannabis scene will only worsen the crime.

Yeah, it was the dope growers who cut down all the giant redwoods, destroyed the salmon stocks, raped the oak forests of their bark, carried out genocide on the natives, and destroyed tidal bay wetlands to build towns too! And worst of all, they are taking up all of law enforcements valuable time and preventing them from working on the fentanyl epidemic. Dope growers will eventually destroy the cannabis industry too!

Just because other entities destroyed the environment does not give you justification!! Most growers are shity community members that pretend they are the savior to the hippy culture that didn’t really do shit in the big picture any ways. They mostly go to burning man and show off on instagram. These growers pretend to be about the community but hire all foreigners, and out of state people. I know because I was one and among them. What we did was make money and try to enjoy life. Trying to put a halo around our heads and cry victim is weeeaaaak!! Pansies.

Mr. X, u are spot on!
I know a lot growers, even some newer ones that are good, conscientious and community minded to the point of volunteering….like us old timers.
Most of the others that migrated to “the diggn’s” for the twenty years after the ‘96 feee pass on medical were likable enough for a short term Conversation down at Dinsmore store…but really, as a whole, the majority were/are low level or not so low level criminals, milking the area of water and hammering the roads.
Now that the rush is over and some people try to stick it out we will see much more of this low level….and not so low level crime out here in the hills!
Just say no to Scumbaggery!

You think that the sxs guys aren’t dope growers / tweak’s with no respect for anyone? If so I’ll bet your wrong! And yes I do know the history of the county as a 6th generation guy here and been recreating in the hill and forest for 60 years. It’s truly sad what has happened with the place after the growers/ hippies invaded in the 70’s.

Actually tweekers checking out unoccupied farms. If the “dope growers” were still around the tweeker stragglers wouldn’t feel so free to drive around everyone else’s property.
