A cashier working the nightshift at the Circle K convenience store on West Columbia Avenue was attacked over the weekend.
Police say the suspect, who is a regular customer, asked the victim, “where the knives were at”.
The employee was unable to answer the question.
That’s when 46 year old James Payne struck him on the head several times with a large wrench.
Payne fled the scene.
Once police caught up with Payne he still had the wrench in his possession.
He was arrested and facing a felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon.
His bond was set at $5,000.
