The Thunderbolt Career and Technology Center (TCTC) held a Culinary Arts Expo on Monday to showcase student presentations and special foods.

TCTC is a branch of the Colleton County School District. It aids the continuing education of our students who have trade career paths.

On Monday, each chef-hopeful had tabletop presentations to display their favorite dishes.

Culinary Instructor and Chef Lashaun Williams gave students an assignment to invent a business plan for a restaurant, hotel or food truck. This was to help them prepare for the future.

“We had to create a pseudo business, design a menu, and make a list of needs, equipment and schedules. Then we had to cook a signature dish from our restaurant,” said culinary student Tucker Spires. “This was a fun challenge.”

Benny Jenkins was also excited about his presentation.

“I created my own menu. I designed the style and logo for my project,” said Jenkins, who spoke about his restaurant called Benny’s Ballsy Burgers.

As students sampled foods at the expo, they were able to vote on their favorite by putting a ticket in the bucket of their favorite signature dish. “This is a good experience for the community to see what we offer at the TCTC Career Center, and I hope more students will enroll in the program,” Williams added.
