Fisherman dies after boat sinks on Tennessee Lake

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — A fisherman has died after a boat sank on a southeastern Tennessee lake, wildlife officials said.

Ronnie D. Gholston, 24, was bowfishing with two other men on Nickajack Lake on Thusday night when their 15-foot boat began to sink, the Tennessee Widlife Resources Agency said.

The two men swam to an island, but they did not have cell phone communication, the agency said. The men heard someone on a boat ramp and yelled for help.

An emergency call was placed, and recscue divers and wildlife officers searched the lake, the agency said. They used side-scanning sonar to find Gholston’s body in more than 40 feet of water.

Gholston’s body was taken to the Davidson County Forensics Center. The death remains under investigation, the agency said.

Nickajack Lake is a reservoir located west of Chattanooga.
