Boys & Girls Club of Lenawee marks end of the school year with annual awards banquet

ADRIAN — The Boys & Girls Club of Lenawee wrapped up all school year programming last week and celebrated the end of the academic year during its annual awards banquet Thursday at its Adrian clubhouse, where more than 100 members received awards for participating in multiple programs throughout the year.

Boys & Girls Club of Lenawee CEO Cody Waters also was recognized with a special Professional Service Award from the Boys & Girls Club of America, a news release said. Waters was nominated for the honor by staff at the local club. The award is presented by the Boys & Girls Club of America to staff members “who show unusually devoted service and have contributed greatly in helping youth to achieve a fuller and richer life through the positive guidance and influence of Boys & Girls Clubs.” 

“Waters’ particular work to renovate and expand space at the Adrian Club was mentioned in his nomination, along with his dedication to Adrian’s Historic East Side and youth throughout Lenawee County,” the release said.

Youth were also recognized for their attendance and citizenship. Staff members were recognized for years of service and going above and beyond for local youth, the release said.

The Boys & Girls Club of Lenawee will be closed through June 5 for staff training. Summer hours begin June 6. Throughout the summer — June through Aug. 12 — the clubhouse will be open from 1 to 5:15 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Boys & Girls Club will also be offering a summer Lit Lab Pop-Up from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday, the release said, for incoming second and third graders.
