ABC-7 Xtra: Rising gas prices ahead of the Memorial Day weekend

EL PASO, Texas -- The question of how high gas prices could surge this summer kicks into overdrive as we near the Memorial Day weekend. Analysts with JP Morgan Chase predict a 30% increase by August, raising the national average to $6 per gallon.

California has already crossed the $6 mark for regular. El Paso drivers have been paying some of the highest prices in the state, although it is currently below the state average.

The head of petroleum analysis at Gas Buddy has tracked oil markets for two decades.

He joins ABC-7 Xtra to talk about his predictions for this summer and whether we might be seeing some relief anytime soon.

Patrick De Haan busts some of the gas price myths he says have more to do with politics than reality.
