This might be the beginning of the end for the Dallas Mavericks. The team had a chance to fight back in the series in Game 3. A win at home would've been a big boost for Luka Doncic and the team. Instead, we saw yet another collapse as the Golden State Warriors clawed back from an early deficit.

Now, the Mavs are facing an unenviable task: for them to make it to the Finals, they need to come back from a 0-3 deficit. No team in NBA history has ever successfully come back from a 0-3 hole. Amid all this doom and gloom surrounding the team, head coach Jason Kidd reminded everyone that they weren't supposed to be here in the first place (via Ben Golliver of Washington Post).

“This is a lot bigger than 1 game or 1 series. This is huge for our franchise. None of you [media] guys had us here. You guys were all supposed to be on vacation… We’re going against a — you can call this a dynasty. This isn’t the end. This is just the beginning,” Kidd said.

Coming into the season, many fans felt that the Mavs weren't quite title contenders. Without any major additions (save for the hiring of Jason Kidd), fans felt like this team wasn't ready to make the leap yet. However, they shocked everyone by making a strong run in the playoffs, and they eventually reached the Western Conference Finals. So far, though, the Warriors have completely dominated the young Mavs.

Kidd's postgame message is surely meant to be his form of consolation for the Mavs. However, that won't really take away the sting of eventually losing this playoff series. The team had plenty of chances to put away the Warriors in Games 2 and 3. However, their inexperience shone through, and Stephen Curry and co. continually made comeback after comeback in their games.

As Jason Kidd said, though, this isn't the end of the Mavs yet. This team is still fairly young and has plenty of room to develop. Luka Doncic arguably hasn't reached his prime yet. The best thing they can do is to learn from their mistakes in this playoff run and come back stronger next season.
