25-year-old suspect identified in fatal Springville shooting
SPRINGVILLE, Utah (KUTV) — Officials have identified a suspect who they arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that took place in Utah County on Saturday night.
Hunter Lamoreaux, 25, of Orem was arrested by the Springville Police Department on charges of murder and felony discharge of a firearm.
Officials said Lamoreaux was known to the victim as a former neighbor.
They said identity of the victim is being withheld at the request of the family while they notify additional family members.
The investigation began Saturday just before 7 p.m. in the area of 450 East 250 North.
Officers responded to the area and said they found a deceased 42-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds to the head on the front porch of his home.
Lamoreaux reportedly went to the police station shortly after and said he may have possible information about the incident that may be beneficial.
According to a probable cause statement, Lamoreaux had been working for Door Dash on Saturday and was driving a white, Toyota Corolla — the same vehicle seen leaving the scene by doorbell cameras in the neighborhood.
Lamoreaux later admitted to officials that the victim was an acquaintance of his and that he was upset about a pending divorce and custody battle between the victim and his estranged wife.
"Hunter stated he did not feel the victim deserved custody of his children and that he had decided approximately two months prior that the victim needed to die," the probable cause statement said.
He then allegedly admitted that he drove to the victim's residence and shot him in the entryway of his home, placing the weapon he used in a trailer in the victim's driveway before driving to the police station.
The incident came just days after a separate fatal shooting in Springville involving a 17-year-old girl.
