Families put their sleuthing skills to the test Sunday during a scavenger hunt.
The New Bern Historical Society hosted their history quest that led participants around town from the New Bern Battlefield to Historical Downtown to Fort Totten Park.
Organizers gave amateur sleuths clues; each clue led to another historical site in New Bern.
The idea was for people of all ages to learn the history of New Bern and preserve it for generations in the future.
"We kinda call it hiding in plain sight because a lot of the places they go by every day and they don't realize they have any historical significance and, so they learn a lot but in a fun way," said Historian Claudia Houston. "New Bern is just filled with every kind of history from revolutionary up to the present time. There's just so much here."
The scavenger hunt was the 2nd scavenger hunt hosted by the historical society. Next year in 2023, the New Bern Historical Society celebrates its 100th anniversary.
