Drivers lock into the NASCAR All-Star Race after the Open Race is complete

Tonight, it’s the NASCAR All-Star Race at Texas Motor Speedway, paying $1,000,000 to win. First, it’s a brief 50-lap last chance qualifier via the All-Star Open.

20 drivers are locked into the All-Star Race but none of them are in this Open race. This is a 50 lap LCQ with three stages featuring 16 more drivers. The winner of the first two stages and the winner of the race will advance to the tail of the All-Star Race. Additionally, one driver will advance on a fan vote.

Tyler Reddick drops to the rear after he was scheduled to start from the pole. Daniel Suarez and Ricky Stenhouse Jr set the new front row. 50 laps of stock car racing are up next…

Stage 1 – Report

Laps: 20 (1-20 / 50)

Green flag, they run side by side into turn one. They fight for space into turn three, Stenhouse Jr takes the lead.

Lap 3, Tyler Reddick has climbed from 16th to 10th. He’s on a charge to the front.

Lap 10, Reddick is up to 6th. He’s shifting as he climbs through the entire field.

Stage 2 – Report

Laps: 20 (21-40 / 50)

Ricky Stenhouse Jr has advanced and he heads to the garage. The rest of the field heads for the pit lane for tires and adjustments. Suarez wins the race to the pit exit with just two tires, Landon Cassill also takes two. LaJoie stays out on old tires.

Green flag on stage two, Corey LaJoie is clear into turn one as Suarez holds 2nd.

Lap 23, Daniel Suarez throws a huge block on Tyler Reddick into turn three. Reddick loses the nose and falls to 4th as Buescher drives by on the inside.

Lap 26, Landon Cassill spins and slams the wall in turn four, caution.

Green, LaJoie and Suarez run side by side into turn one. LaJoie washes off the bottom in turn three and he runs Suarez wide off the corner. Chris Buescher drives under both of them to take the lead.

Stage 3 – Report

Laps: 10 (41-50 / 50)

Chris Buescher joins Stenhouse Jr in the garage as they’ve advanced into the big show. Suarez and Reddick take over the front row.

Pit Penalty: Cole Custer will go to the back after an uncontrolled tire.

Green flag on stage three, Suarez and Reddick run even off turn two. Suarez drives it deep into turn three and takes the lead.

10 to go, Tyler Reddick is using the traction compound lane. He’s higher than anyone has run so far.

9 to go, Reddick gets loose off turn four! He spins down the front stretch and collects Harrison Burton. The red flag is out as only green flag laps count in the final stage.

Green, Suarez is clear into turn one. Austin Dillon takes over 2nd.

5 to go, Suarez is opening the gap as Haley is all over the bumper of Dillon for 2nd.

Daniel Suarez wins the All-Star Open and advances into tonight’s race!
