The Foresthill FFA has been busy these last few months and they are making a name for themselves across the state. The Forestry CDE team of Elijah Tomlin, Kelly Cantrell, Sloan Farinha, Zoe Ordway, Clay Cantrell, Mackenzie Anderson, Matt Fecko, Dailyn Francia and Cordy Hammer have competed in 7 regional competitions since February. They have earned first place at each of the events that they have competed in. The team is headed to the state championship in San Luis Obispo on May 6th and 7th. If they earn 1st place, they will have the opportunity to compete at the national forestry event in Indianapolis in the fall.

Eight members of our chapter traveled to downtown Sacramento to attend the FFA State leadership conference with over 6,000 members from across the state. The students attended leadership workshops and were able to vote for the new state officers and vote on many important issues facing California FFA.  They attended sessions at the Golden One Center and listened to amazing speakers.

At the state convention, students also compete for awards against other students from across the state. Kelly Cantrell, became the state proficiency champion in Natural Resources and Environmental Science. She earned the award for her Supervised Agricultural project in which she removed the invasive species Scotch Broom from campus, wrote two grants to secure funding to plant 1600 native pollinator plugs and to install informational signage. Since she earned first place in the state, her project will advance to the national level.

Right before spring break, FFA hosted the FFA Olympics on campus. This was a great event that included a field day where advisory teams competed against one another and brought the whole school together for a day of fun!

Students will be working to plant the garden for the summer harvest. We will be selling veggie box raffle tickets again, beginning May 11th, so look out for the chance to win boxes of fresh veggies delivered to your doorstep. Students are also beginning to prepare for the Placer County Fair in June.

The students can not participate in these great programs without your funds, please consider attending the cornhole tournament and BBQ on the 14th and/or buying raffle tickets!
