Yankees’ pitching coach surprisingly ejected vs. White Sox

Yankees pitching coach Matt Blake.

NEW YORK — More like pitching a fit coach.

(It’s a joke.)

Mild-mannered Yankees pitching coach Matt Blake was thrown out in the third inning of the second game of Sunday’s doubleheader with the White Sox at Yankee Stadium.

Blake appeared to have yelled something from the dugout that bothered plate umpire Greg Gibson, who’s also the crew chief.

With one out, manager Aaron Boone left the dugout to speak to Gibson. It seemed like he had an issue with Tim Anderson’s single. Replays showed that the ball hit Anderson’s foot after the swing before dribbling to the left side, where pitcher Luis Severino fell trying to field it.

The umpires convened for a moment, and then Boone talked again with Gibson before Gibson threw out Blake.

Blake then came onto the field and had an exchange with Gibson. Boone stayed in the game.

The Yankees lost the first game of the doubleheader, 3-1.
