A hiker was recued by Life Flight after slipping on ice and "cliffing out" on Sunday.

North Fork Fire Department officials said the hiker had slipped on ice and slid down an ice-covered scree field. They said she was holding onto a rock and cliffed out, meaning she was in a position where she could neither ascend or descend.

Life Flight arrived, hoisted the hiker out and brought her to a command post where she was treated by medical responders for hypothermia and minor injuries. She was released from the scene.

Officials said the incident lasted around 2.5 total hours from the call out to the patient release. No details were provided about the exact location of the rescue.

The North Fork Fire Department team thanked the Utah County Sheriff's Office, Utah County Search and Rescue, the Department of Public Safety and Intermountain Life Flight for their assistance in the rescue.

"Our patient was in serious danger and lucky to be alive! Had she fallen more, that would not have been the case," they said on social media. "Keep enjoying this wonderful weather safely!"
