'She will be greatly missed': Fremont Public Schools says recent grad involved in Washington County crash
A teenager was flown to an Omaha hospital in extremely critical condition Sunday and "will not recover" after a crash, according to Fremont Public Schools.
Another person is in critical condition, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said 18-year old Madison Everitt was driving at the intersection of Highway 30 and County Road 29 when her car crossed the center line into oncoming traffic.
Her car crashed near head-on into 34-year old Eduard Bruwers car just after midnight Sunday morning, the sheriff's office said.
Everitt was taken via helicopter to Nebraska Medicine in extremely critical condition, per WCSO.
Bruwer was also taken to Nebraska Medicine, he is in critical condition.
Fremont High School sent an email Sunday afternoon saying Everitt "suffered a catastrophic brain injury that she will not recover from in a tragic car accident on May 22, 2022."
“This is a tragic loss for FHS, the school district and our community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of Maddie and her family,” said Mark Shepard, Superintendent of Schools.
“Maddie was involved in many activities including dance, choir, theater and track,” Myron Sikora, Fremont High School principal, said. “She was a great student and friend to many - she will be greatly missed.”
The district plans to have crisis counselors available Monday at the high school from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
