Area Class 1A Track Roundup
All four area Class 1A track programs got their final tuneups in on Saturday, as they all hit the 1A Invitational in Limon.
What began several years ago to give the smallest schools in the state their own showcase, as they were lumped in with 2A by CHSAA, has become the final chance for those same schools to get kids qualified for the official Class 1A state meet.
Idalia’s girls topped a field of 29 squads, taking the title with a total of 74 points. Hi-Plains tallied 58 points to secure fourth place, while Stratton took 15th with 17 points. Bethune tied for 24th
Place, recording four points.
On the boys side, Stratton finished sixth out of 31 teams with a final tally of 33 points. Not far behind, Hi- Plains checked in with 29 points, good for 10th
place overall. Idalia was 13th with 25 points, one spot in front of Bethune, who finished with 23.5 points.
The state track meet begins on Thursday at Jeffco Stadium in Lakewood. The event will conclude on Saturday.
