Pixar fans, rejoice! The beloved animation studio has announced a brand-new film for next year.

The official Pixar Twitter account revealed the film's title as Elemental, and shared its colourful logo. There was also a brief synopsis, and a release date.

The tweets reads: "In a city where fire, water, land, & air residents live together, a fiery young woman & a go-with-the-flow guy will discover something elemental: How much they have in common. Directed by Peter Sohn and produced by Denise Ream, Disney and Pixar’s Elemental releases June 16, 2023."

As mentioned, the film is being directed by Peter Sohn, a Korean-American animator with an impressive CV. He started off working with The Incredibles director Brad Bird on The Iron Giant, before joining Pixar and working on most of the studio's films.

Most of the time he's been on the animation team, but stepped up to direct the short Partly Cloudy, and actually provided voices for characters like Ratatouille's Emille, Luca's Ciccio and Sox the cat in the upcoming Lightyear.

Outside of Pixar, he directed the English dub of Studio Ghibli film Ponyo and voiced Ganke Lee in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, but his role was sadly cut.

The aforementioned Lightyear is out in a few weeks, and has already made headlines. Partly for Buzz Lightyear's hair, but also the revelation that a same-sex kiss was cut from the film – thankfully it was reinstated.

"It's a touching moment," producer Gary Susman stated. "It helps Buzz to see the life that's being lived in front of him by his best friend that he's not having. He doesn't have those kinds of relationships."

Lightyear is due for release on June 17.

In his time he's covered a host of live events, interviewed celebrities big and small and crowbarred a countless amount of great/awful (delete as appropriate) puns into articles.

A big fan of TV and movies both mainstream and obscure, Joe's main interest is in video gaming. Although particularly a PlayStation gamer, he plays across Xbox, Nintendo and PC/Steam Deck, and likes to keep tabs on many games he's not got the time to play.

Joe currently does not use Twitter, but he only ever used it to tell people to watch the film Help! I'm a Fish (which you really should do).
