A late collapse saw the Gunners miss out on Champions League qualification from the Premier League, with local rivals Tottenham pipping them on the final day.

Despite that, chief Josh Kroenke has vowed to support the club’s manager ahead of the new season to get them back on top.

Writing in Arsenal’s matchday programme, Kroenke said: “Yes, we're in a tough position right now after the last few matches in terms of qualifying for the Champions League, but I think the lessons learned will serve us well.

“Sometimes feeling a level of frustration is the best motivation you can have.

“In terms of bringing players in, we would have liked to have moved faster in certain areas but there are some factors out of our control. Internally we recognise there's still much work to be done.

“On a recruitment standpoint, I will always refer to Edu and Mikel, but I know they have a blueprint of the type of player we need.

“I'll defer to them and support them in every way we can in their pursuit of elevating the quality of the squad.”

Arsenal have reportedly had a club-record £76million bid for striker Victor Osimhen rejected by Napoli.

They have also been linked with Ilkay Gundogan from Manchester City, while Lille forward Jonathan David is another player they are keen on.
