Some of these recent Cubs lineups, man … they’re depressing. The Cubs didn’t start the season with an overflow of positional talent at the big league level as is, but injuries have really taken this thing down to the studs.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
1. Rafael Ortega, CF
2. Jonathan Villar, 2B
3. Seiya Suzuki, RF
4. Ian Happ, LF
5. Patrick Wisdom, 3B
6. Frank Schwindel, DH
7. Alfonso Rivas, 1B
8. Andrelton Simmons, SS
9. P.J. Higgins, C
With Willson Contreras out of commission (hamstring tightness), P.J. Higgins has been called up to the Cubs to start today. He’ll bat ninth, bumping Andrelton Simmons up a spot. Which means, at one point, the Cubs will send to the plate – in order – Simmons, Higgins, Ortega, Villar. It’s just … not ideal.
