At around 5:10 p.m., Daly City Fire Department officials received a call from a local fisherman who reported that a man was stranded halfway down a vertical cliff wall in Mussel Rock Park.

Due to his location, fire crews on the ground were unable to locate him, so the department called in help from a CHP Helicopter H-30 — which is equipped with a rescue hoist that can lift people to and from challenging terrain.

Despite battling 40 knot winds, the CHP pilot was able to maneuver the H-30 100 feet over the scene. A paramedic was lowered down to the victim and secured him with a rescue harness. The two were short-hauled to a nearby landing zone where the man was helped by Daly City Fire and AMR personnel.

CHP posted a video of the dramatic cliff rescue to their Facebook, praising the Air Operations crew for their skilled work.
