Man charged in Granite City homicide

GRANITE CITY (KMOV) - A man is facing charges in connection with a fatal shooting that happened in Granite City Saturday night.

Sean Bennett, 44, of Madison, Illinois, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of armed robbery, use of a stolen firearm in the commission of an offense, unlawful possession of a stolen firearm and reckless discharge of a firearm.

Officers tell News 4 that Bennett shot Corey Ayers, 48, in the 2300 block of Edwards Street around 8:45 p.m. Ayers later died at a hospital. Bennett was arrested at the scene.

Bennett is being held at the Granite City Police Department on a $2 million bond.
