You haven’t seen the last of Barry on HBO.

The cable network announced on Thursday that it has renewed Bill Hader’s popular dark comedy for another season, with Hader set to direct all eight episodes of Season 4.

“Bill, Alec [Berg], and the entire cast and crew delivered an exquisite third season of ‘Barry,’ it’s a masterful blend of laughs and suspense,” said Amy Gravitt, vice president of HBO Programming. “I’m so happy to announce that we are picking up the fourth season.”

It’s not surprising that HBO decided to renew the series, given that creators Bill Hader and Alec Berg have previously mentioned that Seasons 3 and 4 were written at the same time. Hader serving as director, however, is certainly an exciting piece of news. Although Hader has already directed nine episodes through the show’s first 3 seasons, including the show’s pilot, this will be his first time flying solo for an entire season.

Hader created Barry alongside Berg and executive producers Aida Rodgers, Liz Sarnoff and producer Julie Camino. Henry Winkler, Stephen Root, Anthony Carrigan, and Sarah Goldberg also star in the series.

The hit show scooped up 29 Emmy nominations and six wins from its first two seasons. Bill Hader won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series in both 2018 and 2019 and Henry Winkler won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 2018.

Season 3 of Barry has been receiving immense praise from critics, with Decider’s Joel Keller writing that “Hader’s co-creator, Alec Berg, is no stranger to putting his awful characters in new situations that bring out different aspects of their awfulness, as fans of Silicon Valley would know. But because he and Hader have built audience goodwill for two seasons, we can now laugh at Barry putting bullets in the head of both his client and the victim, simply because the client changed his mind. We know the depths of Barry’s blind rage and the fact that he’s begging Hank for work just to give him purpose is a funny prospect because we know what came before, as is Hank and Cristobal finally declaring their love for each other.”

Season 4 is set to begin production in June. A release date has not yet been announced.

Barry Season 3 is currently airing on HBO, with new episodes debuting each Sunday night at 10 p.m. ET.
