In February, Noah Thompson’s best friend forced him to auditioned for “American Idol.” For many of the show’s fans he’s become a household name.
The 19-year-old construction worker performs Sunday in hopes of becoming the next “American Idol.”
“But where I’m from, you really don’t get much opportunities,” he said in his audition video.
Noah Thompson is from Louisa, a small rural town in northeastern Kentucky with a population of about 2,800, which is already preparing for his homecoming, according to Kentucky.com.
But he said his family and his coworkers believed in him.
“I’ve just never believed in myself,” Thompson said.

His friend, known as Arthur, forced him to sign up for the audition. Katy Perry later thanked Arthur for “seeing” his friend.
“He’s got so much talent,” Arthur told Katy Perry.
Carrie Underwood also got emotional talking about Thompson.
Underwood, originally from Muskogee, Oklahoma and season 4 winner, saw similarities between herself and the 19-year-old.
“I feel like this show was created for people like me and for people like Noah, who didn’t know to dream that big but knew that they wanted to do something,” she said with tears in her eyes.
She credits auditioning for “American Idol” as the moment that changed her life. And on Sunday, Thompson’s life could change too.
